Vanishing Landscapes

2011-2012

The former peat winning area of Vinkeveen near Amsterdam is the place where the first night scapes were created by Zuijderwijk/Vergouwe. They were living on a hundred year old Dutch barge at the time. During the night they would sail to one of the many little islands that were the result of the peat winning eighty years earlier. Abandoned for many years the islands had become little wildernesses once created by men. This contradiction fascinated Zuijderwijk/Vergouwe and  motivated them to start their first night landscape series.
